Foxton / Brzezicki / Townshend

This CD/EP is on sale now at the Casbah Club website: http://www.casbahclub.co.uk
A wonderful limited edition, taste of things to come. I noticed a signed copy at ebay for 16 quid and rising, get it direct from the band site for half that price or with a T-Shirt.... Either way it's a bargain, the best you'll ever have!

Hello Simon,

I start with an apology. "I'm sorry !". Just like a butterfly collector, I collected you in the past for no other reason than for the fact that you are Pete's younger brother. I labeled you as such, cataloged you as such, and stuck you in my collection like some kind of sub-species (Simonius Townsodius)
I was wrong!.I was lucky enough to see you perform at both 'The Bedford' and 'The Basement'.
I am a lot of things, but I am not a sycophant. When I tell you that 'YOUR' music stunned me.. you can guarantee that I'm telling you the truth.
At the Basement the other week I was proud that my wife accompanied me. She is not a Who fan. She is not a Pete fan. I asked her after the gig who she enjoyed the most. Being the diplomatic person she is she told me that she enjoyed the whole show. However, when pressed she said "I like that bloke who came on and sang about having a sex change". High praise indeed !.
Like a lot of Who fans I know your music by proxy.(From the 'Sounds of Green Lightning' up-wards) In the past I afforded you a smile, like some patronizing git who viewed you as nothing more than Pete's little brother.
I spoke to you at the 'Basement' (briefly) I joked with you about the fact that "you had come of age" (which in itself sounds bloody patronising... which was never intended). I want you to know...that, if in the past I have viewed you as someone who walked in
your brothers shadow...NOT ANYMORE...someone turned the light on!
I have a limited amount of money. All the Cd's I buy have to justify themselves as I can no longer afford to just buy them 'on spec'.Your album has now moved to the top of my list.
Whatever it is you do...just keep on doing it!You are one hell of an artist! Out from the shadows little brother...your futures so bright your gonna have to wear shades!

Hi Simon
Bought the CD at the Sheffield gig - really enjoying it. The production is excellent, great guitar sound on there and a classic Foxton bassline chucked in too!

Just curious about the individual writing credits as the CD has Casbah Club / Big Country for the CD but no individual track credits.

I know Save Me From Me and When She Sleeps are your tunes, pretty sure Sex Change is too but what about the others???

Best wishes from Liverpool

Thanks for the vibes Tony - will take a look at pics again in a mo.

Hi Marietta - Thanks for the support!

Paul B - powerful words!

Alicia - I feel bad. We didn't get the order in for girlie shirts yet. Hopefully we will do that over the next few weeks, just need to get more organised after the abrupt and unexpected ending to the Quo support tour.

'Hola' to vinicius in Brazil!

Hey Jack - Casbah CD is a five track EP and it totally rocks! Beg, steal or borrow the money!
;-)

Adam - I'm glad you're a reformed ST fan. Must admit though, I worry that there must be thousands of people out there that shared your old opinions. I guess I'll just have to keep on knocking on the door, bashing it down - Get me heard! From out of the shadows steps a giant! Cheers!

Neil - Good to hear you're into the Casbah CD. I'm so pleased with it. Album early next year.

Hi Paul - CD does rock, I know! I wrote all the stuff except Any Way She Moves which is a joint composition. Casbah take credit as we are doing a split on the royalties - help fund the project and keep us all 100% behind it. U2 do that. I think it works in a band so that one person doesn't earn all the dosh.

Lisa - so you paypald in the end? Good for you! Really think you'll love the product.

Thanks everyone for blogging!

Hello simont,

In answer to your question, I am a fan of all the members of Casbah Club and was looking forward to hearing some good new music (bloody difficult these days!). I went to the BC site and found too many childish fools attacking you, Mark Brzezicki and Bruce Foxton. Most of the complaints on the BC site (or by their gutless anonymous posters who came here to your lovely blog) have been one sided, unjustified and plain wrong. I was fortunate enough to be recently enlighted to the truth in all this (and also heard a few bizarre tales of IG's past dealings). As you have not defended the band, someone else needed to.

I commend you and the rest of CC on moving forward in a dignified manner. After months of empty promises and carrots dangled in the BC message board for a Casbah Club release, it seems amazing how quickly you chaps have been able to deliver the goods on your own. By the way, in hearing the downloads, it's pretty obvious the band does not need more than three members to sound amazing. Casbah Club rock!

Thanks Jessica! Pleased you got to see one of my better gigs!

Bill - What earlier tracks are you referring to??

Hi Karel - the guitar I'm playing at Basement Jam is a Gibson Chet Atkins electric acoustic. The best on the market.

Hi Mike - I think Bob K answered your question. Ta so much!

Hi Casbah Convert - You only need one guitar when it sounds this good. Only 2 of the tracks on the new disc were released before but not by this band and none of them ever released in the UK - plus we like them and they sound amazing. Hey, and every one of these tracks is newer than the BC and Jam songs covered by the old Casbah Club. We are working on new material now, hopefully be recording in the new year.

Cheers all!

Hi Simon,

>Bill - What earlier tracks are you referring to??<

Sorry, should have been clearer. I meant the first CC recordings (the ones sitting on the shelf) of the 5 re-recorded tracks presented on this EP.

This CD really does sound fantastic and it is hard for me to believe the unused old CC tracks sounding anywhere near as good.

"Among Us" was released in 1997 whereas "Driving To Damascus" was released in September 1999. By my reckoning that makes these sons 2 years older than the DTD songs that the old Casbah Club used to do. (and before you say it I know that the Casbah Club mark II didn't cover any DTD numbers but the original CC did)

2:48 PM
Blogger casbah convert said...

Oh, forgot to say about the guitars ... maybe you say the one guitar sounds good but I can assure you the two sounded a lot better - just an opinion

2:50 PM
Blogger PTfan said...

Ok Simon, What is Casbah Club anyway. Apparently it is not a band that you all of a sudden made up, it has had different members come in and out and this is just another form of CC? So what songs are done? I notice your two solo ones, who wrote the others on the EP? And where did Sex Change come from? And when you tour what all songs do you play? Is it all covers? Why did you join them when your own band was extrememly incredible? No complaining or criticsm here. I'm just trying to figure out what's what is all.

I have been fortunate enough to hear both the studio recordings of the 4 piece Casbah Club and the November recordings of the 3 piece band contained on the EP. I prefer the newer versions of the tracks. They definitely have a better overall sound and, in my opinion, a better performance. The guitars and bass tracks have been improved and the newer drum sound would be hard to top.

I'm not trying to knock the four piece Casbah Club because I liked them and hope their recordings see the light of day - there's some really great stuff there. I simply think the guys went in to the studio in November feeling comfortable and knowing what they wanted. Just my opinion.

Has anyone else actually heard the recordings made over the summer with "the twin guitar attack" 4 member Casbah Club? By the way,the recordings on the EP do have 2 guitars where needed. As for 2 of the tracks on the EP being 10, no make that 8 years old, who cares? What a revelation that a previous line up of Casbah Club played some songs that were only 6 years old.

I look forward to new recordings of new compositions in the new year. For now, I'm loving the Casbah Club EP that's currently playing in my home. Thanks to Mark, Bruce and Simon! This will hold me over.

4:20 PM

Nice touch on the Quo messageboard Simon - I think the guys over there really appreciated you taking the time.

Looking forward to some CC activity in the new year.

If you're looking to fit a show in up my way there should be a decent turn out as you went down really well in Liverpool and people are talking about you guys.

The Cavern is now a great venue - decent size stage and I think the room holds about 4-500 punters. Mind you, there's always the original Casbah Club in Liverpool but I think you can only get about 30 in there!

If you're interested in doing a PA at one of the large music megastores in Liverpool (I won't mention the name!) when the album is ready, give me a shout - the manager plays drums in our band and would love to get you guys in if he can!

Still loving the CD

Paul

4:32 PM
Blogger SimonT said...

At times I wonder ptfan.... the reason I joined Casbah Club was becasue when the old singer/writer and keyboard player left, the rest of the band asked me to step in. The manager at the time picked songs from my catalogue and suggested the band do their own updated versions in the set as they were playing mainly covers and needed some original material.

Casbah Convert - I don't know the DTD album very well. I like the early stuff, Inwards and Wonderland are both great songs to play. Re guitar on the new disc, I don't know what you're comparing to? This is our first release. Whatever, I remember your posts in the past have always been really positive about my material and I appreciate you coming here and voicing your opinion. I also think that, like me, you are frustrated that things didn't work out with the line up of the band that toured last April/May. Cheers, ST

Simon,

You and your hats! You need Casbah Club knickers. Much better than hats! :)

Okay, I'm in a goofy mood, just finished 2 math finals... Haven't slept in 2 days... Pure mathematics is so much... err... fun...

"It is not just heads down noisy shit"

You are definitely cool, Simon. I'll have to remember that one. :D

Hi Simon

I love 'When She Sleeps' - please play it on Sunday night if you can. Just wondering too 'Anyway She Moves'has got that bassline and also the Big Country-esque guitar solo - is that an intentional nod to the Jam and Big Country - if so it's a very cool sounding combination.

I really wouldn't mind hearing " Save Me" " Next fly" ...kinda don't want to hear anything too sad- sounding, battling the holiday blues as it is.
Just being honest. My brother just called me, said that I looked like I'd been crying in my new profile photo.
He could always tell, he was right:(
So things that don't sound too sad would be nice. xoxoLisa

Cheers John! Really pleased my performance moved you so much.

Hi Steve - May try and play only new material... we'll see. I don't usually play When She Sleeps acoustically so it may be a change to do that one. Any Way She Moves is certainly a nod to BC and Jam with the Fields of Fire guitar part and the bass line inspired by Taxman.

Lisa - Sorry to hear you have been down. I have a new song called Vibrate that I would like to play for you - a song about seeing the positive side of life, also another song called Under Different Light - very upbeat. I'm nervous about about doing new stuff though, incase I mess up the words... but I think I'm gonna go for it.

Cheers. ST

That's so awesome!Suddenly I feel kinda cheered up! You're so sweet,
don't be nervous about new stuff. You know you're the man.:)
And it's such a good time to do it, I know I can't be the only one feeling kinda blue right now. It's a hard time for people in general.
But I have my CD and T coming, and I
AM going guitar shopping before christmas, so...
Seriously, Simon, thanks for cheering me up. You really did.

Simon,

Please excuse this post under this topic thread. I haven't quite figured out how to start a new topic yet.

Is it possible to obtain the tuning and tab to The Way It Is. I wish to
only perform it for friends and family.

If not a full tab, perhaps just the tuning and basic chord progression.

I recently caught your performance at The Basement Jam, and I really thought your stripped-down version of TWII song in that setting was really spectacular.

Thank you and warm regards,

Joe
