Tonight's In The Attic

A slightly different vibe tonight on WhoTV with Rachel and Mikey. I played a gentle ballad about a girl I fell in love with in London while I was living in New York, called 'Girl in New York'. I think it's one of my best songs. I played 'Ecstasy Heaven' too which is about partying with friends, written around the time Zak Starkey and I spent days and nights and more days and nights at The Blues Tavern in Farnham, England. Good but hazy memories, probably best forgotton. I'm proud of the song though, again a slowish ballad. I hope people enjoyed my performance as much as when I play more upbeat stuff. It was great to hear Pete play tonight though when I watched the replay back I thought I looked a bit wierd clapping along in the background to 'I'm One' - felt very cool at the time. Perhaps I'm being paranoid?? Naked in the attic with no guitar! Rachel and Mikey both did a great job as usual. Loadsafun!

Never over-analyze the "cool look"...I have only pulled it off one time and I just put it on my blog. Check out my post...Twitchybitch.
Naked in the attic would be an entirely different show...not that I wouldn't check it out... momentarily...with my hands over my eyes, of course.
Your songs are great. Thanks for sharing them.

Fantastic time,Simon! I've been
pushing the 'simontownshendis'
CD to those who don't have it
and for those who are just now
dicovering you and taking you
serious.I all fairness I have
been lucky enough to have seen
you in-concert about 5 times.
I've received some private
emails from some who say
they ordered your CD's online.
I think this world of blog is
a great place to reach out
and pull in new recruits.Your
music is just too good to go
unnoticed.

Here's my comments made on
the previous blog.

As I already said under the other topic, your songs were very beautiful. Thanks! And I agree, it was an absolute pleasure to see/hear Pete, especially Greyhound Girl. As for clapping during I'm One...who cares about cool anyway.

Naked in the attic, now that is an interesting concept...

Thought WHO TV was great. Today was the first time I've gotten a chance to watch. Really enjoyed your playing.
That's funny about Zak, he's become a friend of mine. Famous father drum club!

I love your 'slowish' ballads.

And I believe you're being very paranoid about how you looked in the background when Pete was singing. You were perfectly fine.

Simon -
I really liked your "Girl in New York" song, you can write such melodic and soulful ballads. I enjoyed every minute of the show today, except when my monitor failed and I had to re-boot.

I posted a song about In The Attic, specifically written for Pete & Rachel a week or so ago. I added a new verse and re-did it and I'd be curious what you think of it. It's a bit muddy sounding, I think I need to invest in some good microphones.

Or go to my blog, on left side of screen, My Personal Page, then click my MUSIC link. You'll see it there.

I'll be adding another song I've just finished for my Wife for her anniversary...

The clapping was fine. Don't worry about it.

In the Attic is always so much fun. I love that song Ecstasy Heaven. I was happy when you played the opening chords. I didn't get to watch the show. I just caught a bit of a re-run when I got home form work.

I'm One was so much fun with all of you guys. What a blast!!!

Girl in New York was awesome. It has a lovely selection of chords. Don't worry about the clappin'. I would love to see you live in the states (or England if I have the cash). Keep on truckin'!

Today was fun, and your songs were beautiful, Simon.

As for looking at all uncool while clapping, it's very hard to look cool while clapping, but that should never stop us, and you were IN the groove, silly! I think uncool clapping would be clapping that is unrhythmic; now that's something to complain about, and you could never be accused of that.

And remember you were among friends, physically and virtually. You could've showed up all rumpled and a mess and we'd have loved you being there.

Your songwriting knocks me over.
The sweetest thing: the way you kissed Mikey and Rachel when you arrived. Awwwww.
Thanks again for the webcast. I'm waiting for your CD to arrive from amazon.

P.S. The clip from last night's show was fantastic!

As you noticed on Rachel's blog, I loved "Girl in New York" - your girl (with the great name, I might add!) is very lucky.

As for the clapping/cool issue, to me it came across as the whole lot of you were having a blast. Hope you continue to join us in the Attic!

Simon,

I am so glad you mentioned you have a blog--had I known, I would have written last week! "Girl in New York"....simply beautiful. I also thought you were incredible last week when you played "The Comeback" and "The way it is". I thought you mentioned last week that these would be re-released on Eel Pie. I hope sooner rather than later. Also I hope that Rachel will release a "Live in The Attic" CD of just the music parts. You all have treated us to some wonderful music! Thank you so much for sharing.
I don't know anything about the music industry, but something is terribly wrong here. I think what they continued to release over and over is crap--nothing special at all. The people that they make into stars....oh brother...you have more talent in your little finger than any of them. And then they complain that sales are down...I simply don't understand.
Enough of my rant...
Well I hope you know that we love you in Texas--I hope you will tour here soon.

Take care and thanks again for such a wonderful show.

"Girl in New York" really was wonderful.

And, as you probably realise from my fellow comment-ers, you and Mikey looked anything but weird clapping along to "I'm One". I found myself joining in at home!

Be good;

I really enjoyed the show Simon. I really like your music! I think as long as you were enjoying yourself that is what helps the audience get into it and they feed off your energy. I just loved it!!

Thanks Brina. And you too Kara. And Twitchybitch Ali - I did read your blog.... your mad! Fun though. Jessica - you can crush me anytime! John, Justin, Mike, Lin, Pete, Joe and ofcourse the gorgeous Storm - thanks all of you so much for the positive vibes your giving me. I should have started at the top but in my usual style I've gone in somewhere in the middle so now I'm probably going to upset somebody for not responding.... Seychelle - may back out of the naked In The Attic bit, Kevin, Janey, Sue and Belinda who wrote a really long piece about the shit music industry. Brina too who wrote such kind words to build up my confidence after feeling silly clapping in the back - infact many of you mentioned that. Hi Chris Tarafa - you still in the UK? Night night all, early night for me - ps. still don't know ptfans name?? You all ROCK!

Hi Simon!
It's been great fun seeing you "In the Attic" with Rachel, Mikey and Pete. Love the music - haven't heard much from you for many years! I have your "album" Sweet Sound, but since I have evolved from a record player, all I can do is look at the cover. :) I was happy hear that you are going to make it available again (via Eel Pie??) I'm loading up my iTune with some of your new music now and can't wait to listen!

I saw you "live" many many years ago in San Francisco back in 83? '84? My friends and I went backstage and met you and the band (you had quite the 80's hair going on - I'll have to dig up the picture!) We knew you'd continue to make some awesome music!

Lots of good energy going on "In the Attic". My family and I pop on when the show is on loop. My 9 year old daughter gets a big kick out of Rachel - however, wishes she would quite smoking. Good for you for giving up your vices! Not an easy task for anyone!

At any rate, we hope to continue to see you all "In the Attic" and will tune in to your blog for the latest updates on new music and hopefully some US dates??

Thanks for sharing your music!
