Status Quo UK Tour support

My band, The Casbah Club have been offered the support slot on the Status Quo, December UK tour. There are some really good shows; Birmingham NEC and Wembley Arena size venues. The money isn't great and it would mean spending 16 nights on a tour bus but I really want to do the work.... Just wish everyone in the band felt the same way.

It could be some excellent exposure to a wider audience, and I'm sure this is your take on it. I love Status Quo, wish they were more well known in the states. They had that cool song "Living On An Island", when I was a kid, the lyrics went something like "we're gonna get high.... " at the end, and I thought they meant going up in a beautiful red balloon or something. Shows how nieve I was.

Good luck with the tour Simon. Glad you're blogging man.

You are the rare musician.
You really dig the work.
I wish you and the band would
come to Southern Florida.
There's a nice outdoor venue
called the Revolution in Fort
Lauderdale.Hope to see you in
NYC oneday at the least anyway.

I have been in your position before! When I was contracted by my first Ballet company I got paid in Toe Shoes and Tights to wear. So no money! I had to live in NYC which was super expensive and I didn't have time to work as well as I was too young by the State Laws! (14). So when everyone went on tour and was so excited I was not because they were all being paid and I was not! I guess we all have to make sacrifices for what we love and have passions for in life. Especially the Art world.!! Good for you being so positive!

Let me know if you ever make it to The USA. Would be a lot of fun to see your performance! I will not be back to the UK until possibly Spring or Summer so if you have events there when I am in town I would love to see. Please kept posting about your gigs!

Have a great weekend!-Molly

Isn't the music better when it's not about the money? That is the way it is with writing. I write better when I'm hungry (metaphorically). Not that I do not like to make money, but it is never a good motivator. Thanks for commenting on my blog. Sorry you happened to hit on such an angry posting day. Come back when I am playing nicely. ;^)

Hi Simon!
Thank you for your comment on my blog!
Do you remember me? (I realized after posting about meeting you that it may have sounded weird! LOL). I'm so sorry that I didn't come into the club to hang w/ you and Mark during your sound check. I was very shy then! And young. Before meeting you, I had a drink at the bar, by myself. That was the first time in my life that I ever did that! LOL! Ok what a geek...
I was so happy to see you "In the Attic." That show makes my day/week/etc. You sounded fantastic. My little girl was watching too and when you played "I'm the Answer," she said to me, "Oh I know that song - you sing it in your sleep!" I think she was serious. She's a wild and crazy girl like her mom...Maybe I sing it around the house, who knows!
I've seen you play with the Who, but never solo (since 1985 in Providence).
I hope you come around soCal w/ the Casbah Club, I'll come see you guys, fer sure!
Take care and keep up the good work ( and especially not drinking.Eight years is awesome- congrats for that! I am trying very hard to stay sober too. It's not easy. I feel very much empowered though when I stay clean. One day at a time is the only way! I'm actually on my way now to meditate at a Vedanta/Ramkrishna Center. That's a switch from my normal Friday night routine!).
Hope we see more of you in blogland (In the Attic).
-Sue

Sounds like real rock 'n' roll. Years ago we talked about doing some video work together. Set up one of those tours in America so we can finally get around to it.

I agree with Gary. The exposure, in itself, is definitely worth it. I personally don't think I could endure 16 nights on a bus. But, if I had half the talent you did, I'd do it.

Congratulations Simon!

It sounds like a good tour offer; I hope you do it. Congratulations, now do you have to convince the rest of the band?! or take a vote, or ????

I can still hear the songs from the webcast in my head, especially Rachel's Stevie Wonder dedication song, "Without Your Love"...it's stuck in there!

When you began to play guitar on the webcast, for a moment it sounded like Leo Kottke. Do you know his guitar playing? He's from Minnesota, where I live. Gorgeous sounds. Honestly, you reminded me of him.

Isygrl,

Do you have the 2002 CD 'SimonTownshendis'??

I hope everyone will get this
if you don't have it. I rank
it as the most gut wrenching
music I've laid my ears on.
All 18 tracks are fantastic.
A rarity in these times.

You asked (another blogger):

"Do you have the 2002 CD

Would you know where to get it? amazon.com says "currently unavailable".

Maria,

the U.S Amazon at www.amazon.com
does have it available.

I just checked with the UK
Amazon and they do not have
it available.

Thanks, Mike. Order submitted. I tried to find the album on www.amazon.com (the US one) on thursday or friday, so since it was added October 15, that explains why it was showing "item currently not available" for me.

Dear Simon

I know you as simply "Pete's little brother". I mean that in the most complimentary way.
It's just that I am only beginning to know you. Since Pete & Rachel began their respective blogs & their weekly dance "In The Attic, my eyes have been opened to a much wider horizon.
I did manage to miss you last week... My computer has limited capabilities & the only computer that receives WhoTV I'm not able to watch, because it's at work. Therefore, so am I...

I would like to know how I might be able to purchase some of your older work.

My husband was in a band in Toronto many years ago & he says one of the most difficult areas to deal with was agreeing on things - I guess Pete could attest to that too...

Wishing you & The Casbah Club all the best!

www.amazon.com has Among Us and Simontownshendis. Furthermore they list Animal Soup and Ages, which are "currently unavailable" but you can place an order for them.

That would be great to play for that many people. So what is happening? Did the band say no, or are you guys still discussing it? I don't know why they would say no. You're in a band to play music publicly, right? So if you're invited to do that...

I'm so glad you have your own blog!!!

I'm really proud of you for giving up drinking and smoking!

Blogger Gary said...

Yeah, congratulations on quitting drinking and smoking Simon. I gave up ciggies about 10 years ago and I can say with certainty that it was the most difficult thing I've ever put my mind to, and proudest achievement.

Fingers crossed on the tour. Saw an ad in Performing Songwriter for those Collings guitars.. nice.

Hi Simon - Good luck on your tour, just keep in mind that 16 days really isnt that long, I wish I could take the time off of work and fly across the pond to hear you. I guess I will just have to wait until you guys come over here to the States next year!

Simon,

Have seen you with The Who a number of times and went to see the Casbah Club at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen - I was in the front row and apart from getting beer thrown over me by some over enthusiastic fans it was a tremendous night - 16 nights in a bus in December worth it if you think about getting the Quo fans going - many of them are suprisingly discerning!! just checked out the quo site - your credited as being the support in December + you'd be back in Aberdeen for 20th December - fancy a beer?
