CASBAH CLUB - LIVE

Dear Simon,

Long time since I've seen you...............
What a treat it was to see the loop of Who TV today. It was like having all of you in my livingroom or actually my computer room. It's not often we get to see you and Pete together singing in such a comfy setting. I was smiling and really enjoyed it. Glad to hear you will get your web site up and running again soon. I tried to see the clip of the Casbah club gig....it played ok but it was a tiny tiny screen that came up and I could not enlarge it. I have a Mac which usually you can increase size even if you loose some quality. I'm not exactly a computer wiz so ...
hope you are well, you look and sound great.......

XO
Gigi

"Sex Change", eh? That's very catchy. I'm looking forward to the album and tour of dot-bom-casbah-club or whatever act you front when it comes to the States.

Didn't this clip used to be on the big country web site?

Very cool. Bring it to the states so we can do a video like we talked about years ago.

That was great. The only thing that could have made it better was a little cool hand clapping. Heh heh. Sorry, I just couldn't help myself. Wish you would post some mp3s.

Fantastic, now I can post without being a blogger! Great to have Simon By Himself back on the net.

This was originally post on Big Country website. I have no idea how to enlarge the tiny, tiny screen - it's a huge, huge band though. I wonder what nutter wrote those words? Been thinking about passing the buck and changing them to, "She wants a sex change".

Simon, I like it. I really like the tone on that guitar, are you playing through Vox amps?

Blogger SimonT said...

Hi Ali - I have been trying to upload an mp3 all evening, a song called 'Any Way She Moves'. It's a mash up of Jam, Big Country and S.T - like, three hits in one. Having technical trouble but will get over it soon. P.S. I'll be clapping in my sleep for sure.

Hi Gary - No actually using a Strat with P90 pick ups, a Fender Hot Rod DeVille Combo with a Fulltone pedal. Everything up to number eleven.

WOOOO!!! Simon, you ROCK!!!!
Ha! When you first started singing "sex change" I thought of Spinal Tap's "Sex Farm Woman" and thought that was funny for a minute, but you were ripping so I wasn't thinking about that for very long!
Thanks for the clip.

I've just spent the last 2 hours replying to questions asked last week - probably never get read as they are in an earlier posting. I am still getting to grips with this 'blogging' thing and may be wasting a lot of time in the process. Fun though.

Simon, thanks for the clip. Great song. I enjoyed "the attic" this week. The music was awesome. Now we have to wait and see if you can play as well while wearing pyjamas.
Haha. We dare you. ;-)

Simon,
thanks for blogging.

I had a quick question about your web site. I can't connect to:

www.simontownshend.com or
www.simontownshend.co.uk

Can you let us know if this web is offline. Would like to be able to order your music, I guess I can go to Amazon in the meantime, but am curious about your own web site.

Blogger Mike S said...

I can answer the Cat Stevens question,Jo.

THE Cat Stevens that you are thinking of had changed his name to Yusuf Islam almost 30 years
ago and is a stout Muslim and
once had allegations on him
that he had asked for the
assassination on Author Salman
Rushdie for his controversial
book 'Satanic Versus'.Since
then Mr.Islam has been banned
from the U.S as he was on a list
of those supporting terrorists.
More allegations that are
questionable but exist nonetheless.
A loooooong way since leaping and hopping on the 'Moonshadow'
days,sadly enough.

So when is Simon going to reveal how he got that look for the cover of 'Sweet Sound?'
Do you have to actually work as a coal miner? Mechanic? How do I get that challenging expression? Which cosmetics should I buy?

12:10 PM
Blogger SimonT said...

Hi Amanda - I can't remember what that was we put all over me. Silly idea at the time based on the classic, Angels with Dirty Faces. Have you heard the album or got it? Pete and I have talked about Eel Pie re-releasing it on CD which would be wonderful - the cover is a bit crap but the music deserves to be out there.

1:55 PM
Blogger SuperAmanda said...

BTW: The second chapter of The Scary Guy Who Heard Music is up. Hope you like it ;)
Cheers!

Blogger SuperAmanda said...

The cover is NOT a bit of crap.
I like the way that Brits always add 'a bit' in to a sentence (eg: "That park over there is lovely but it's a bit boring...")it makes a basic statement sound so much more effective. ;)
Sweet Sound is pretty sweet and yes it should be reissued asap!

The Scary Guy Who Heard Music while making Sweet Sound in a coal mine....i think I see a video possibility!

Blogger PTfan said...

Justin, you're funny!

Simon, I agree with Amanda, the cover is not crap. For an art class one time, I drew your dirty little picture, much larger than album size and I think it looked great. The eyes were quite piercing if I remember correctly. The art teacher wondered why your face was dirty and I don't think I had any witty answer at the time.

"Cut My Hair" (Mikey) HA! Hilarious!

Oh, hey. Why do we keep talking about Sweet Sound but not Moving Target? Any plans for that?

Hi Simon-
I was thinking of the show yesterday - and how it must be incredibly difficult to be Pete's brother (at times!).
I'll cut to the chase and say: you should have alot more confidence (than you exude on camera) because, honestly, you are a gifted and talented musician in your own right, really.
I enjoy the way Pete is respected by all of you - and then, wow- to watch you all jam with him - it was just beyond joy for me - it was so beautiful.
I can't wait to download the "Christmas" gifts!
See ya,
Sue

John Sullivan from NYC's Ginger Moon (now the John Sullivan Brigade). How are you? Sent you a CD a while back. Have FUN with the blog; it just takes a bit of time and effort.

Just wrote a music novel, ROCK AND ROLL MURDER, as well as a new CD; read up on it at my website.

Simon,
I was just watching your video for Barriers that I have on VHS from forever ago (recorded off the tv.) Do you have that availabel that you could re-release either on the computer or on a DVD with other footage? Apparently there are a lot of other women around here who think you are pretty wonderful and I know that they would enjoy watching it!! Even the people out there who are attracted to your music only, would enjoy it I think.

Amazon is the best place at the moment to order the simontownshendis CD. SimonTownshend.com will be back on line shortly and STis, Among Us, Animal Soup, Ages & Bare Assets (live acoustic) will all be available there. A few other surprises are also in the works including free downloads of Simon's live performances.

Bob or Simon,
Does this mean that Simon's relationship with Stir is intact?

I'm really confused. Stir, Track Records and now Eelpie seem to all have an interest in the Simon Townshend products of the past and present. What's the status?

I must say, and I really am trying to not sound like a big smooch here, but I'm just amazed at the level of talent in the Townshend family. Your Dad, Pete, Emma, yourself, and the extended musical family now, Rachel, Mikey.

I mustn't be looking in the right places because round here (S.Cal) all I hear is (c)rap, and speed metal (usually in Guitar Center on a saturday). One exception, I was in there a month ago and this kid was there with his Mum, must have been 11 or so, was sitting playing "Can't Explain" on an SG. I told him to please stick with the greats.

Anyhow, I just wanted to pass that on to you, I'm sure you have been told that many times. I'm in awe and can't wait to hear the Casbah Club CD and perhaps the opportunity of seeing you play with The Who next year.

Thanks for perusing my musing on my blog... i always wonder whose eyes are skimming my ramblings.
so like, yeah- I'm crazy... in a good way... not a "needs-to-be-committed" way. :) So would that be as crazy as you? Crazy is good, it keeps things in check.

I'm so jealous you have double the "views" of your blog than I do and I have been "blogging" since August!! Obviously, I need to learn guitar.

I'm happy you appreciate Jeff Buckley. Ah, "Grace" is one of the most amazing albums I've ever listened to... beautiful, melodic, and a bit haunting.

Dr. Phil is like Oprah with a degree in psychiatry. Think of it as a white collar version of trashy talk tv.

Great video ! and more your songs performed in Attic the better.
Aalso if your unknown :) brother makes appaerance you could try him to get him do do Evolution from
"Who Came Fist" (If you haven't heared it, check it out) together.
It's perfect 2 guitar acoustic piece for you two to play in such a intimate settings.

Hello Buck,

In an attempt to answer to your question, Simon continues to be directly involved with Stir Music. Over the years Stir has acted as a production company, management team, record label, booking agency, etc. Though Stir activity has been quiet over the past year, we feel the time is right to once again have a presence.

Simon's Track connection came in to play when Simon started working with Track artists and the new band, Casbah Club. Some members in Casbah Club have had long lasting relationships with Track and the label is currently in negotiations for a Casbah Club release.

Simon can probably sum up his relationship with Eel Pie better than me, but I think we're all doing what we can for the common cause of promoting music that we like.

Best!

Dear Simon

John Sullivan can't spell his name.
Sorry, it caught my eye & I just HAD to comment. No offense, John. Just funny.

I was not able to download The Casbah Club at the Zodiac. My little ol' computer won't do that. It won't do lots of things...
I am looking forward to the day I can ceremoniously toss it off the back of the truck into the dump!
Only after I have my new one all ready to go, of course.

Keep blogging. (That sounds so lame).
